Artificial Intelligence: It’s Impact On Your Weekly Grocery Shopping

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way you do your grocery shopping in a world that is continually becoming more digital. Studies conducted in 2023 suggest that 82% of grocery stores report that adopting Artificial Intelligence will be necessary to compete in the future. In Australia, despite being considered a step behind other parts of the world regarding technology, it seeks to invest and innovate to keep up with technology and changing consumer needs.

Why Make a Video On Artificial Intelligence In Supermarket Retail?

AI in Supermarket Retail

The objective was to create an insightful, informative video coinciding with an interesting and relevant subject impacting daily life. How this subject of studying Artificial Intelligence in Supermarket Retail was decided upon was a curiosity through being employed in the industry sector part-time. Furthermore, this video was intended to include messages and meanings to show how Artificial Intelligence is leading to a more progressive society economically. In contrast, it was also valuable to look at opposing perspectives surrounding AI’s controversy and the negative impacts it poses.

As a media consumer with a love of learning it is enjoyable to see the processes of how Informative videos are produced and how they can keep an audience engaged. YouTube channels such as ‘CNBC’, and ‘Company Man’ are a perfect example of this video genre. Inspired by their video model, coincidentally, this video embodies a similar method of telling a story while informing an audience.

Video Planning Process

The planning process began by creating a mindmap of how Artificial Intelligence is used in Supermarket Retail, guided by Google Scholarly Articles and news sources to support the argument.

Voiceover and Audio Mixing

With these ideas and concepts, this information was converted into a script that could be read as a voiceover before editing it with Adobe Premiere Pro. Using Adobe Audition as the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW Software) to edit the voiceover, the overall sound quality could be improved using effects such as limiters and compressors. This was to create a consistent performance, so the decibel level maintains a particular threshold when you hear the spoken dialogue.

Finding Artificial Intelligence related Foley and Creative Commons Material

When researching photo and video foley, it was vital that this material had the appropriate licensing and permissions, such as Creative Commons. Additionally, the focus was to select material that complimented the word choices and phrasing that was spoken in the video’s voiceover. For example, when it was said, “Let’s go back to 2008”, the footage selected comprised of a clock symbolic of ‘a moment in time’.

When selecting music, The advanced search feature on SoundCloud was chosen to find Creative Commons music that could be ‘modified commercially’. The final music choice was upbeat, maintaining an exciting sensation throughout the video.

Summary

In producing this video, plenty of valuable learning lessons and challenges existed. These challenges were mainly specific to sourcing relevant stock material that was Creative Commons licensed. Specifically, these were visual materials displaying Artificial intelligence in a Supermarket setting.

Text on screen was critically important in allowing an audience to be guided in how the video is meant to be interpreted, even if the visuals didn’t completely match the spoken dialogue. On the contrary, using text from another perspective can also improve audience engagement with the likelihood that they watch the video for a longer time rather than tuning out. Not everyone interprets information well audibly, so well-considered visuals like text allow for better suitability to a broader audience demographic.

Artificial Intelligence File Organisation
File Organisation

Another learning experience also encountered involved the practical implementation of file organisation. This process is where files are selectively organised into specific folders to make them easier to access while editing. This learning experience was inspired by Dylan Hornsby’s (2018) video, which included editing tips for making videos.
